Assumption University Hosts a Grand Celebration of Christmas at the Saint Louis Marie de Montfort Chapel

WRITER: THE AU LIBRARY

Bangkok, Thailand – Assumption University of Thailand (AU), Thailand’s first international university, welcomed the holiday season with its grand annual Christmas celebration on December 24. This much-anticipated event brought together students, faculty, alumni, and staff of diverse nationalities and faiths, exemplifying the university’s mission of fostering unity through faith and love.

As a Catholic institution under the Saint Gabriel Foundation, Christmas holds a deeply significant place in AU’s traditions. The evening’s highlight was the traditional Midnight Christmas Mass, presided over by Rev. Brother Amnuay Yoonprayong, Vice President for Moral Development Education, together with six Nigerian priests, scholars, and students. The Mass was held in the Saint Louis Marie de Montfort Chapel, one of the most beautiful chapels in Thailand, renowned for its architectural grandeur and serene atmosphere.

The chapel, illuminated by the soft glow of Christmas lights, was filled to capacity with students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The solemn Mass was a profound expression of faith and reverence, uniting the AU community in the celebration of Christ’s birth. The service reflected the spirit of gratitude, hope, and the enduring bonds of love and unity that Christmas represents.

Adding to the evening’s splendor was the enchanting performance by the AU Chorus, a volunteer group of students from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. Their harmonious voices resonated through the chapel as they performed traditional Christmas hymns and carols, captivating the audience and elevating the sacred ambiance of the celebration. The dedication and passion of the AU Chorus symbolize the university’s values of inclusivity and collaboration, as students from all walks of life came together to honor this cherished tradition.

In addition to the Midnight Mass, the celebration featured:

  • Traditional Blessings: Highlighting AU’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also the spiritual and emotional growth of its community.
  • Festive Decorations: The campus was transformed into a Christmas wonderland with dazzling lights and decorations, creating a magical and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.

Rev. Bro. Dr. Verayuth Boonpram, Vice President of Assumption University, emphasized the significance of this event: “Christmas is a time of love and unity. It is a reminder of the values we hold dear at AU—faith, compassion, and harmony. This event is not just a tradition; it is an opportunity to bring our diverse community together in a shared spirit of joy and hope.”

The Midnight Christmas Mass and accompanying festivities are central to AU’s mission of fostering holistic education. By blending academic excellence with spiritual and moral growth, the university continues to shape students into well-rounded individuals who live in harmony with others and contribute to building peace in society.

The annual Christmas celebration at Assumption University remains one of its most cherished traditions, uniting its multicultural community in the shared joy of the season. It is a time when faith, love, and unity come alive, reminding everyone of the true meaning of Christmas and the enduring bonds of the AU family.
