The oldest cardinal in Asia is Kijbunchu, the 94-year-old Archbishop Emeritus of Bangkok. He has spent 63 years as a priest, 50 years as a bishop, and 40 years as a cardinal.

Yezouma Pascal Coulibaly, Fr. Justin Min Thit Lwin, Fr. Simeon Amuluche, Fr. Innocent Udolisah, Fr. Emmanuel Oguejiofor, Fr. Joseph Anyalogbu, Fr. George Oguejiofor, Fr. Udegbu Vincent and Fr. Gerald Okoye, AU scholar priests attended the thanksgiving Mass of Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu of Thailand celebrates the 40th anniversary of his election to the cardinalate and the 50th anniversary of the Archbishop of Bangkok's consecration on June 3, 2023, at the Pastoral Center of Sam Phran, a district of Thailand’s Nakhon Pathom province.






They congratulated him on behalf of the Assumption University of Thailand (AU) and offered him a bouquet of flowers.
According to Radio Veritas Asia, the voice of Asian Christianity, the 94-year-old Archbishop Emeritus of Bangkok, Cardinal Kijbunchu, is now the oldest Cardinal in Asia and has been ordained priest since December 1959. He was born on January 25, 1929, in Sam Phran, a district of Thailand’s Nakhon Pathom province, to a family of Chinese descent. His mother converted to Catholicism following his grandfather's marriage to a local when he immigrated from China.
His Eminence Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu received words of congratulations and appreciation from the Congregation for Evangelization and from the Apostolic Nuncio representing His Holiness Pope Francis and the entire Roman Curia.


The Archbishop Emeritus also received words of Congratulations from the Bishop Conference of Thailand, the Archdiocese of Bangkok, the Union of the Religious Congregations in Thailand represented by Rev. Bro. Dr. Dechachai Sripicharn, the Provincial Superior of the Montfort Brothers of St Gabriel and from his biological family.
Many Bishops, Priests, religious Brothers, and Sisters as well as numerous Catholic faithful from all over Thailand, also attended this Thanksgiving Mass to pray for and celebrate with His Eminence Cardinal Michael Michai Kijbunchu.
